is tv wrestling actually better live? or are we just told that because that's what advertising-driven tv networks demand of wrestling companies?

Well, that slapped!

We're back to the usual format now with Sanson/Cuatrero/Forastero vs Soberano Jr/Atlantis Jr/El Audaz.

Next up is Rey Cometa vs Stigma in a relampago (or lightning) match. This is only for a single fall and has a ten minute time limit, so expect a lot of action.

Rey Cometa: white face paint
Stigma: red/black mask

Most of these matches will be under "Australian rules", which means two things:

(a) it's best 2 out of 3 falls,
(b) each team has a captain, and a fall is scored when you pin/submit either the captain or _both_ of the non-captains

This is confusing! Go with it! You'll work it out, and it doesn't matter too too much anyway in a lot of these early matches.

(Ooops, forgot the spoiler tag before.)

CMLL thoughts

Incidentally, I think more wrestling matches should be 2-out-of-3 falls. I think it gives the wrestlers more stories they can tell, which is a great thing.

Another interesting thing: Templario and Soberano Jr were in a no time limit single fall match. That's an unusual format for CMLL, who mostly run 2-out-of-3 falls matches. When they do single fall matches, they're generally relámpago (lightning) matches with a 10 minute time limit.

CMLL thoughts

I'm catching up on last night's CMLL show (youtube.com/watch?v=e6mPew0s3w). One interesting thing to note: Okumura was on the show. I don't know if that means anything for the NJPW/CMLL relationship, which he apparently is in charge of, but it's interesting to note nonetheless.

And is just a blast, IMO. The crowd always love it, and they generally put on a pretty good show. For me, it's low stakes fun that I can tune into for free at the same time every week, which is perfect.

(Incidentally, almost all of their shows go up on their YouTube almost immediately, here's last night's show: youtube.com/watch?v=e6mPew0s3w which I'm catching up on as I pontificate.)

Chikara, and more specifically King of Trios, was really the first non-WWE wrestling that I ever watched, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I always enjoy when I watch it live, but it's not in "catch up afterwards" territory for me yet. Part of that is because I don't have a great handle on who is who yet, so watching with the Splania Discord folks who are properly into TJPW makes it a lot easier to follow along. (Plus watching with those folks is always a blast!)

Enjoying my wrestling filled weekend thus far. KoT Night 1 last night, followed by TJPW. Catching up on last night's CMLL during the day today, before KoT Night 2 tonight, then KoT "Night" 3 tomorrow afternoon.

NJPW Destruction in Kobe

Jay vs Naito was incredible, unsurprisingly. Excited by the outcome, will be interesting to see what happens next around the whole two belt storyline. (Goto definitely feels like a holding pattern feud, though.)

Young Lion Cup winner; NJPW expansion plans

I have mixed feelings about Fredericks winning (none of which relate to him directly!).

I worry that it indicates that NJPW's US expansion plans are "adapt to the US audience" rather than "present our unique product to them". Their main product probably wouldn't be affected a great deal, but it might mean fewer Japanese wrestlers coming over for NA shows and more NA talent being booked, which I don't want!

Catching up on this morning's Destruction in Kobe. Mixed card: a definite skip (shout out to NJPW for putting Henare, Honma and Fale in the same match to make that an easy decision), the first Ospreay match of the tour I'm going to have to watch for BC drama, but otherwise all matches that I'm looking forward to watching (YL cup included!). Should be good!
