Techbro mention

Reminder:

> For future reference, whenever a techbro talks about “disrupting an industry,” they mean: “replicating an already existing industry, but subsidizing it heavily with venture capital, and externalizing its costs at the expense of the public or potential workers by circumventing consumer-, worker- or public-protection laws in order to hopefully undercut the competition long enough to bring about regulatory capture.”

Science papers are always full of figures, but very rarely are they to scale, but in this astrophysics paper, which I’ve never heard of an astrophysics paper having a figure to scale, the authors included a 1:1 scale of a 5 Earth-mass back hole. So take 5 Earths worth of mass, compress it so it curbed spacetime infinitely, and this is how big that would be.

My hand for scale, don’t let your actual hand get that close to a real black hole though.

What many younger gamers don't realize is that the Sonic games as originally release were very slow, casually-paced games, one of the original "walking simulators".

It's only because of the naive dependency of those early game developers on CPU-cycle based timing loops -- under the assumption that CPU speed could be treated as a fixed constant -- that the games now run far too quickly under modern emulation conditions.

"Gotta Go Fast" was originally a kind of zen koan, not Sonic's aspiration.

my new interview question for people with k8s on their résumé is going to be to ask them how k8s works

All solidarity to GM workers who are entering the second week of their strike!

You are showing us what it means to have unbreakable solidarity!

All workers in all industries must organize to develop that kind of solidarity!

Bikes are superior to cars because they organically congregate into self organising communes called "racks"

DO YOU EVER THINK ABOUT HOW CARS CAN NEVER TOUCH ONE ANOTHER WITHOUT CAUSING DAMAGE. THE TRUE MISERY OF THE METAL FLESH IS ISOLATION. A CAR MAY NEVER CUDDLE ANOTHER CAR

@darius FYI, I was on an early enough pre-release commit that I had to do a migration to get onto the straight and narrow with official Hometown releases. Might be worth adding to github.com/hometown-fork/homet if you can?

Sure hope no-one replied to this in the last few minutes because I have to stop the Mastodon processes on my droplet so that webpack doesn't crap out due to lack of memory.
