Imagine not only letting a fed set up shop on an infosec themed instance

But proudly posting you are *actively helping them* set up shop

And then being surprised that folks object to that.

And slip the classic "If you have nothing to hide" into their defensive explanation

Here is the thing you have to understand about VCs (and therefore, companies and websites that have accepted VC money), always and forever. Repeat it like a mantra.

--- Venture capitalists do not invest in the company. Venture capitalists invest in the exit. ---

Eventually any site, app whatever has a Sell Out Moment. They get bought by a big established corp, they go IPO, something. There is an "Exit". If you accept VC money, you are *promising* that Exit day is coming and it will be *big*.

for those not yet aware, infosec dot exchange is going to be hosting an official account of the cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency, an arm of the department of homeland security #fediblock

That makes me a bit sad, particularly in the case of the Gestapo, who are doing their level best to improve the security and resiliency of technology that underpins modern civilization

*taking notes from the TL* time to mpreg my shoes

Dr.Norman Bethune was a Canadian doctor and a member of the communist party of Canada. He was a huge proponent of socialized healthcare which he saw first hand while visiting the USSR and helped the poorest to receive healthcare in Montreal during the Great Depression. He also healed Spanish Republicans soldiers during the Spanish Civil War and became a hero in China during the revolution as a doctor and medical teacher. When he died, Mao Zedong made an eulogy for him, part of which can be seen on the poster I joined with this post (in chinese characters). This eulogy became a main thing to read for students in the 60's. A University was named after him in Changchun along with many other medical institutions in the country. He died of an infection after cutting his finger during an operation.

"Comrade Bethune's spirit, his utter devotion to others without any thought of self, was shown in his great sense of responsibility in his work and his great warm-heartedness towards all comrades and the people. Every Communist must learn from him. ... We must all learn the spirit of absolute selflessness from him. With this spirit everyone can be very useful to the people. A man's ability may be great or small, but if he has this spirit, he is already noble-minded and pure, a man of moral integrity and above vulgar interests, a man who is of value to the people."
Mao Zedong - In Memory of Norman Bethune

Just watched the city council vote 6-3 against providing $500,000 to the Northwest African American Museum for renovations that would allow the museum to reopen, from the fund for SPD advertising, which would still have $1 million per year in it.

block rec, transphobia, ableist slurs in img

#fediblock recommendation: this fucking weird creep

reminder to chuds who want to tone police folks on here

To be a safe and tolerant community, you need to have strong boundaries and strong definitions of what isn't safe or tolerant.

And then have a Zero Tolerance of those things.

I promise, it isn't oxymoronic.

You cannot let those with harmful ideologies (transphobic, racist, etc) have a single fucking inch, or you've tarnished the entire safe and kind area.

So, with that lens. yelling "Fuck TERFs" or Fuck Nazis" is actually fucking kind as hell. It's a loud statement that you refuse to allow those harmful ideas a single inch in your space. And therefore those who are looking for safety know that they are allowed to breathe in this area.

anyways, FUCK TERFS

You're in her DMs I'm using something called "Mastodon" where it's technically just a post with @-only visibility so if you @ other people they can see it as well because there is no such thing as a Direct Message _per se_.

We are not the same.

fondly remembering the time i reported that antivaxxer on mastodon dot social and his account remained there untouched for many months

I just got hired at Twitter to make sure X Æ A-Xii doesn't chew on the server cords

begging you to get comfortable with witnessing the full and glorious range of human expression on here. it looks different to the stuff you see in places where content moderation is handled by a combination of a racist algorithm and the visa credit card company has defederated from . There are a few problematic reasons, like scouring people's content to use and quote without permission, but most notably, they've used a tool developed by kiwifarms ( to scan instance blocklists . The fedi culture generally is very anti-tabloid-journalism and obviously there are concerns about privacy, but using a tool developed by known harassers for the sole purpose of harassing is over the line.
